S_O_G I believe Edison fialed something like 2,000 times before finding tungston functioned well in the light bulb. He could have been faulted by many (in fact he was) for not employing greater expertise instead of relying on his rudimentery knowledge of physics. Isn't it aamazing that the company that he founded Edison Electric, still lives today as GE? Look at all them failures.
