LOL- well, the house dog was an addition that i had no input into. it just appeared, and the grumbling was met with a retaliatory shopping trip.
The outside dog tolerates the schnauzer, a little bit anyway. Protects it from the cowdogs and semi-retired sheep herding dogs that are plentiful here. The old border collies tend to go deaf, then they get retired from sheep herding to a life of luxury and easy food, but they can't sit still for long, so they learn which neighbors have BB guns and which ones don't rather quickly.
The Basque sheep herders that live here tend to not give non-working dogs much attention, so i go through a fair amount of BBs.
Your house sounds like a good place for kids to be. Many days, i wish mine were little again and i could spend time with them i missed earlier, instilling things i should have told them earlier, but then i remember times when i couldn't wait for them to grow up and be independent. Why just today, i got a call from my oldest one, she blew a clutch in her car, so i became her best friend again while handling the mechanic over the phone. I regret not having taught her how to pull a tranny... LOL
