Bylo~Doug is correct.. you need to understand "street name" and holders of record.

TD Waterhouse may have hundred's of investors with a position in VTSI (holding their certificates) but Waterhouse will only appear as ONE of the "shareholders of record."

You might look into this yourself, this is my understanding.
