In the Permolex process the feed supplement is just a by product as I understand.
Less overall tonnage available for feed.
More competition for "feedstock".
Higher feed prices reduces margins for the beef producer.
So herds get sold off, then supply is reduced and prices go up, and the cycle goes around again.
