Loop, the reasons you cite are valid, IMO. But regardless of what triggered NOK to come to the table, it is apparent that they are ready to sign. In my experience with IDCC, it is very rare, if not unheard of, for the company to issue a statement in an 8-K like the one they included in today's filing. This should have been a standard "just the facts" 8-K, with no spin, stating that NOK did not succeed in getting an immediate injunction against IDCC participation in the ITC actions against both SAM and NOK. But instead, they chose to lead off with a statement that settlement negotations are ongoing and substantial progress has been made in resolving all their differences.
That says to me that a contract has been, or is being, signed, and once the ink is dry and the check clears there will be an announcement. This also sends a message to SAM that they better get on board or face the consequences. The confirmation from NOK in the press is also a clear signal that IDCC is not exaggerating the state of affairs. Clearly it is time to stop the scorched-earth approach and help IDCC put the teeth back in their licensing program - otherwise the rest of the holdouts could continue to get a free ride while NOK pays.
I give it no more than 2 weeks, and I think we will see a license with NOK and a termination of all the suits in progress. SAM should sign at the same time or very soon thereafter. SNE and MOT are just around the corner, if my reading of the tea leaves is correct. The only surprise to me is that NOK seems to be caving in before SAM. I figured they would be the last holdout!
What we should be trying to project is an appropriate share price given the scenario that seems to be unfolding.
