Are you sure that you can boot from an external drive? I seem to remember reading someplace that XP can only boot from an internal drive.

Also, I did not realize that the back up drive had to be the same as the original make/model.

Are you saying that if I have a back up 160 GB WD drive, I will not be able to swap it for the 74 GB WD drive and boot with it?
