Some brokers, like schwab, limit trades to 999,999! that has been posted many times!

Don't forget that the 999999 are from brokerages that don't trade in volume higher that. Also I would suspect if a buy-back did start we would see a lot of trades at the ask and not bid.

If they trade on the open market they can't just dictate their own price and they would have to buy at the ask. Just the same if they wanted to sell they could very easily do it at the bid.
