Looking to add a few monitors to your system? I have a few tips..

I had 4 monitors hooked up to my Sony Viao. I used 3 video cards, one in each PCI slot(PCI slots are usually the slots they use to put your 56k modem card in but can be used for PCI video cards) and I was able to use the internal video card that came with the computer for a total of 4 monitor connections. Well, I needed a new computer and they have changed. There are 3 types of slots available today: PCI, AGP, and PCI Express.. When you connect a video card to any slot, it automatically disables the internal video card that comes with the computer so you cant use it.

Check to see how many PCI slots you have, their white and you should see the 56k modem plugged into one. If you don't use dialup, then you can remove the 56k modem from the slot and use it for a PCI video card. I had a total of 2 PCI slots in my new computer. I bought 2 PCI video cards, each one had dual VGA monitor connectors so each one could support 2 monitors. I now run 4 monitors from one computer using the 2 PCI slots with the dual monitor connectors.

I used the PCI slots because I tried using the AGP slot with a dual video card(it came with the computer, usually they don't) and the the PCI slot. The PCI slot didn't work, there was a conflict using 2 different slots. The PCI slots work great so I would stick with them for more that one video card. The cards I bought ran about 80 bucks a piece, not bad, ya don't need anything more than that.. My mouse flows seamlessly through all 4 like it was one monitor.

Note: You need to go to your display panel(shown below), click on each monitor and check "Extend the desktop on this monitor" to get it working and adjust the resolution on each when.. You can also choose which monitor you want as your main one with your desktop on it.
