EDITORIAL: Innova departure wake-up call for us

The announcement of Innova Robotics & Innovation's departure this week from Southwest Florida is chilling, because it bodes poorly for state and local efforts to diversify our economy.

It means we have to do more as a state and region to recruit and retain companies, especially in the technology field.

This is key to 21st century business.

The Florida Chamber Foundation released a report at the end of last year identifying strategies for economic development centered around "The 4 Ts," or trade, tourism, talent and technology.

On technology, the report observed modest gains in some areas while showing that Florida paled in comparison with competitor states and nations in research and development spending.

Innova moved its headquarters from Fort Myers to Washington state. Interim CEO Spencer Lloyd said: "Right now, we are reshaping what Florida is all about for us. Florida is evolving."

A few months ago technology-related company NeoMedia Technologies Inc. relocated to Atlanta.

We need to reverse this trend, and increase our investment in technology. For our state's sake.

SPIN says: it's tragically comical that the fishwrap bozos running the ft. liars news-press would actually comment on the "fleeing" of scamnova as if it somehow related to the economic prospects of something other than a close circle of greedy and unethical penny stock cronies feasting on the dollars of ordinary investors through deliberate deception. although regionally, it might result in a net reduction in mechanics liens, unpaid property taxes, defaulted loans, and the like.

hosting secret meetings in ft. liars isn't exactly a solid start lloyd... hopefully weisel at least took you on a ride on the yacht. he sure took investors for one to acquire it.
