That's because the disk encryption key, unlocked via a password when you log on to your computer, then is held in DRAM. If a thief can get a hold of the key, he can then get into the disk."

This paragraph is the superiority of the FDE solution from STX. Everything is done inside the protection of the silicon and is therefore not subject to hacking.

So what we see are an inferior solution that Princeton demonstrated could be compromised.
