I think you've just confirmed the presentation position: since the cost to make the 300mm wafer isn't much more, but you get double the end product, cost/die goes way down. HOWEVER, that's only useful it you've got a market for the product. My friend's position (and I agree) is that AMD will have to substantially increase market share in order to make use of a 300mm fab. If they don't, they'll end up with an under-utilized fab, which will drive their costs back up, negating much of the savings that 300mm would provide.
