I still wonder why they even started to modify the Deep Scan when you add up all the costs and such as I doubt it has been improved enough to justify it all. According to the original survey done in 2005 there was a lot of extra equipment aboard, and it gave high estimates on values for these items.
For instance there is a sidescan sonar system it says includes custom software and 21" monitors. It also lists it as being worth between $50,000 and $100,000 which seems high to me.
There are also spare parts and handheld metal detectors plus other items.
But overall I still think the idea of trying to convert this into some type of deep water boat is not feasible given the low freeboard and slow handling this thing has. And if it was going to be modified you would want experts that do this type of work to conduct the analysis and not just cut off the bow and add something that seems right. Anyway I hope it all works out and they get it in the water and working again. If it has the systems the survey says it does then it could be a nice workboat.
