I guess I wasn't aware that a new drive could still be inserted in a machine that had an FDE drive in it. If that is correct, then you're right, it's not the end of theft. But unless a thief is part of a ring that employs geeks, or is one himself, he'll just opt for another machine, IMO.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that the TPM will not allow the new drive to be recognized.
