You might want to rewind the clock a few years and revisit how all the QCOM bashers were proclaiming that QCOM had no IPR in WCDMA; that they had no way of obtaining GSM IPR; that there was no way the big companies would have to get a license from QCOM for WCDMA; etc. Funny how ALL of those predictions of doom & gloom were wrong...
