That's really not that bad for them. I worked on the east side of Baghdad in '04 & '05 and at that time we paid the basic laborer $5 a day up to $20 a day for the highly skilled workers (experienced generator mechanics, office workers fluent in english, etc). I'm sure the wages must have gone up a little since but receiving a pension of $5 a day for doing nothing is probably good money for most. The last I heard the police only make a bit over $200 a month to start and they take all the risks, but that may have gone up a bit too since then.
