wbmw, Elmer,

And what do you suppose that has been?

Obviously I don't know what going on behind the scenes, except for hear-say and second hand stories, but the consensus I got was that nobody 'in the know' had high hopes about availability or performance from the quadcores, at least for this year. This obviously means that AMD was much more realistic to them than they were in the press.

You don't think that would be frustrating, or at least awkward? Let's say you're Dell, and a very important customer wants an update on the schedule. Do you tell them the truth and break NDA, or do you tell them a lie and follow the AMD party line?

I bet they break the NDA, either by going 'off the record' or by giving out strong hints. It's kind of an awkward situation, but every (big) company has their own image to uphold and can therefor imagine what it must be like for AMD right now.

Elmer, > It also puts the OEMs in a very uncomfortable position.

Especially those who are hoping for AMD to survive and keep prices down via competition.

AMD will once again play the anti-trust card, since it's looking more and more like they'll need Uncle Sam to bail them out.
