Most people only see Windows after it has been pre-installed on OEM-selected hardware.

My experience with recent releases of Linux and current windows is that the installs are roughly similar. I prefer SuSE's install to RedHat's, but that's largely cosmetic.

Did you try Linux once several years ago? You should try one of the current releases. Most will automatically and painlessly set up your existing Windows system to dual-boot into Windows or Linux so you won't even need a second machine.
