Re: Maybe for you.

Most people only see Windows after it has been pre-installed on OEM-selected hardware.

My experience with recent releases of Linux and current windows is that the installs are roughly similar. I prefer SuSE's install to RedHat's, but that's largely cosmetic.

Did you try Linux once several years ago? You should try one of the current releases. Most will automatically and painlessly set up your existing Windows system to dual-boot into Windows or Linux so you won't even need a second machine.

Dan3 & Elmer, I downloaded Mandrake 9.0 and burned the set of 3 cd's. Several of my customers wanted to try it. I'm no Linux geek! Had no trouble whatsoever with the installs. I was very surprised the way hardware detection etc. went. On a few occasions I had to set up the printer they owned. However when they got home or the office they reported that all they had to do was plug the darn thing in and viola, it worked. Most of the new machines had new video cards which were detected with no problems. Didn't work that way a few years ago!

After doing some reading regarding the commands (should i say dos like) that one can use in console mode I am surprised at the flexibility inherent thierin. Still trying to wrap my brain arround the file system structure, it is different?
