Sassy, re: Ch-ch-ch-changes...Or, MEET THE NEW BOSS...

I am trying to live my life in the same manner as prior to Sept 11, but it is hard to be normal when I go to the airport and see the National Guard there with their side arms.

Interesting that you should bring that up. Today, a friend of mine and her daughter came back from a convention in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Of course, in both directions, she passed through metal detectors at the airport. No problem.

Thing is -- my friend took a rather serious fall in August of last year, and now has a 8" titanium rod installed parallel to her left tibia & fibula (IIRC). The rod is about .25 inches in diameter. Kinda makes you wonder how effective airport security is even now, hmmm?

FDR said "we have nothing to fear but fear itself" I no longer belive that statement to be true. There is much to be fearful of.

But, sassy, you have to remember -- FDR said that NOT after Pearl Harbor, but in 1933 immediately after taking office for the first time. The fear he was talking of was the fear of an ongoing economic depression -- although I dare say, sooner or later I expect the Republican word-wonks to turn it around in some way and make it sound as if it's original with Georgie-boy.

Sassy re: fear

I know it can be difficult, but I think you have to just live you life, and not worry about terrorism on a personal level. You do what you can to keep yourself and your family safe and then try not to sweat that which you cannot control. Again, I know it's not easy, but to do otherwise, you just help their cause and make yourself a victim even if nothing is directly done to you and yours.

Sassy: On the other hand

I am fearful of the retaliation that is inevitable.

Not to prey on those fears but did you hear about the two cases of Anthrax at The Sun in Florida? They found Anthrax on keyboards and think it might have been sent in powder form in an envelope.
