medicare is, however, a model of efficiency...far outstripping the private sector. medicare administrative costs = 2%...in the private sector that same cost = 30 - 40%. if people had the option of buying into medicare i believe you would see the free market tell you what the better option is as the rush to enroll in medicare would be on a mass scale.
