Lot's of direct trades happen in all markets that the general public doesn't know about. I can buy from a particular person and have my broker and his broker handle the transaction. These types of transactions happen quite frequently among the bigger players.

Thank you MacDaddy ... there is no disclosure and no transparency on short selling. No One knows for sure.

Wrong MAcDaddy ... the clearing house long position.

Say xzcf clearing house has so many brokers:
DLJ - Long 100,000
DHY - Long 100,000
NI - Long 100,000
LJ)O - Long 100,000
etc.

I have 400,000 long position I can short. As I short sell to others the long position will increase.

But I do not have a problem with shorting like in the Commodities market. There you have to put up capitl as collateral. Nothing wrong with that ... just hte borrowing of another's property.
