JMO,
Based on my own efforts with my own school district (which I haven’t figured out yet), if you think politics in DC is complicated, try figuring out a local government structure and where the decision makers really are on the school board. It is almost like the saying “I’ll connect you to ext. XXX only to hear a message that someone will get back to you ASAP was invented by the secretaries!” Right! During the last snow storms it was a real task just trying to figure out which school was cancelled and which wasn’t. I’m talking about a twenty mile radius tops!
School board meetings here are attended by parents with their own agendas and everyone else’s be darned.
It is really amazing to see. I give ATWEC credit for making the progress deciphering these systems as far as they have and this, IMO, has to be one of the reasons for things going more slowly than first thought. Not only are school districts different from internal state counties but I can just imagine what the differences are between states. One would think you could just call a Mayor but no, we the people have to have our say even if it costs us in the long run.
