Chipguy, the point was that it is better to tie your horse to the Cray wagon then to the SGI wagon. For all Cray is or was, it still has the name and it was still selected to build the worlds fastest super computer for the US government. This computer is the basis of a design that they will be selling commercially.

SGI on the other hand is in serious trouble as many others have pointed out via links, and will be dead soon enough. By betting their last hand on Itanium, they have IMO made a mistake as they can't compete with Linux on x86.

So once again back to the original point, as a manufacturer of processors, I would rather have Cray adopt my technology than have SGI adopt my technology.

As long as we are talking chipguy, want to make any bold and fanciful claims based on the 3rd quarter system numbers that were recently published?
