wbmw, I take it from your reply that you would rather back a company that is almost dead than a company that has been a long time leader in the supercomputer field.

Long time leader? ROFL, you only started dabbling in techs
recently? Pipsqueak startup Tera Computer bought the corpse
of Cray Research from SGI in 2000 for a song and then took
on the venerable Cray name.

While SGI made a great product, they are being replaced, wholesale, by Linux on x86 in their primary Hollywood market.

Pixar moving to Linux over SGI IRIX workstations


IRIX workstations are based on the old MIPS R1x000
series processors and are seriously slower than x86.
SGI does not sell IPF based workstations (yet).
