#18082 RE: wbmw #18079

wbmw, I haven't seen A64 laptop benchmarks, laptops aren't a favorite configuration for the benchmark bunch. However, we were speaking ficticiously about the way answers could be given at the conference if AMD wanted to stress their WiFi advantages, powerful desktop replacement machines and potential new product for next year. As such, I think the claim that A64 mobiles are the fastest desktop replacements available is a statement which can be backed up by showing the clock rate and the internal benchmarks AMD used for giving them the 3000+ and 3200+ ratings.

I grant that Intel has the best thin & light offering, and I don't demand to see the evidence each time we discuss this because I am convinced. I know that current AMD mobiles cannot compete on power requirements for this market. However, you cannot realistically think that there is a mobile P4 or P-M available that can performance compete with an A64 laptop, do you?

My impression is that a 1.7GHz Banias will come very close in performance to a 1.8GHz Mobile Athlon 64.

Have you ever seen a Banias compared to an equally-clocked Athlon XP Barton? No, I haven't either. The only comparison I remember was between a 1.6 GHz TBred and a 1.7 GHz Banias; the TBred has hobbled with a horrible graphics solution. But I do know that a 2 GHz Athlon 64 runs circles around a 2.2 GHz Barton or an overclocked 2.4 GHz TBred.
