#18085 RE: sgolds #18082

Sgolds, Re: However, you cannot realistically think that there is a mobile P4 or P-M available that can performance compete with an A64 laptop, do you?

When you say "compete", do you mean that the product is faster, or that it's fast enough not to lose market share?

I typically take the word to mean the latter, but that's just me. To clarify, I do think that a 1.7GHz Centrino will benchmark within 10% of any Athlon 64 laptop currently on the market. After all, Pentium M has scored 30% faster than an equivalently clocked Athlon XP on past benchmarks. A 1.8GHz or 2.0GHz Athlon 64 isn't exactly going to leave Pentium M in the dust - especially since smaller profile memory modules are still being sold in volume at DDR266 and DDR333 speed grades. That makes the Mobile Athlon 64 significantly slower than the desktop equivalent.

A 1.8GHz Dothan might even close the gap in performance.
