iRobot, maker of the Roomba and the Scooba, will release its latest product, the iRobot Create, a programmable robot for entertainment and education. iRobot's idea is to get people to experiment with robot design. Buyers will create their own programs, as well as rig up their own hardware, said chairman Helen Grenier.

FYI -- INRA-Coroware's Martin Calsyn will be using an iRobot Create in his presentation in Portugal (in March), to demonstrate some of the stuff that is possible on the "brains" (software) side of the equation. (link back to prior post).

btw there is already an apparently strong market demand for customizing OTS robotics stuff, and iRobot had the vision to welcome that demand (IMO). i think Coro will respond to that geek-factor that's out there too.

"This is a key step in moving the entire unmanned systems market forward." ???

"We now have the capability and expertise to test JAUS compliance, giving vendors a jump-start and assuring customers that the systems they buy will interoperate with one another. This is a key step in moving the entire unmanned systems market forward."

What is JAUS?

Will they make much money from this and if so, do you have any idea how much?

For those of you NEW to INRA, I thought I'd share some info with you. One of our prestigious board members happens to be:

Martin R. Calsyn
Principal Consultant, Software Architect
Coroware, Inc.

Read through some of his posts. Always very subjective and informative. In one post, http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=13986333, he even states that he worked for Microsoft for 12 years and was the original founding architect for Microsoft's Robotics Studio. Believe me when I say that we HAVE IT ALL here on this board!!!
