Right now Gil is a much better pitcher than Severino. If the Yankees had a legit pitching coach I'm sure he could figure it out.
Look the mets ace of the staff is yet to pitch yet his name is Senga. To be fair manaea has been pretty much just as good as severino. As for Gil the problem with your analysis is although I agree longer-term I think is gonna be waaaaaaaay better, and peak gil is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than peak severino even at Severino's best which is not this year although he has been solid. Problem is now with Gil's innings where they are, are we seeing that pitcher for the rest of the year, the pitcher I have seen the last 4-5 starts if he can't snap out of it, My gut tells me he will snap out of it if handled right, but he won't be as dominant as he was to start. Tonight's performance although a loss was a great start for gil to get back on track. But lets see him back it up with another. I think the All star break might help him as well, and if the Yankees are smart have him come out 5th out of the rotation out of the break, let him get a little rest with all these innings.
You see torres is the guy everybody beat up on. Where Volpe has gotten 0 criticism, how anyone can't be disappointed so far with him would be baffling to me. It is early, it is not like he is a disaster, but to be honest I expected him to be better, maybe this is coming from someone who drafted him on some fantasy teams and have been quite disappointed. What can I say I had much higher expectations for him, maybe that is why I have been overly negative there. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
