In the last couple years alone, new devices have been created using EOP for the following applications, excluding pluggable transceivers:
1) Quantum computing
2) LiDAR
3) PON
4) Co-packaged optics (several different iterations - plasmonic with EOP, silicon MRR with EOP)
5) Artificial neural networks
6) microwave photonics
7) free-space optics (satellite comms)
8) Metasurfaces (this alone has a wide subset of applications for sensing and imaging)
I’m probably missing a few, but you get the point.
THIS is why Lebby uses the term ubiquitous.
