Alexis deTocqueville's warned to remember that there are "false, but clear ideas." And they indeed do prosper --everywhere. The stupider and simpler a notion, the more generally it will be accepted. That is true in all domains.
The great problem in America is that the half-educated are in charge of the news and the education.
In the last 60 plus years, electric utility research has refined burning fossil fuels to be the world leader in pollution control (at least in the USA). Hydrogen is making progress but is decades away from being economically competitive.
