Amazon to invest $7.2 billion in Israel, launches AWS cloud region Reuters
August 1, 2023 6:26 AM EDT

Amazon.com said on Tuesday it is planning to invest about $7.2 billion through 2037 in Israel, and launched its Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the country.
Amazon's cloud services in the region will allow the country's government to run applications and store data in data centers located in Israel.
"The establishment of the Region will enable us to migrate substantial governmental workloads to the cloud, and we are confident that it will help us accelerate digital transformation in the public sector," said Yali Rothenberg, accountant general of Israel.

tkg, I imagine that these massive AWS infrastructure plans Amazon has for possible openings as soon as 2026 in Saudi Arabia will likely rely on the future 1.6T transceivers that Dr. Lebby has presented on this past year, referencing a chart for growth and size (800G, 1.6T) of transceivers over time from Coherent Corp. (COHR). 🚀 BOOM!

Follow up on the Saudi Arabia data centers build out...

@Beth_Kindig 18hrs
Including $AMZN AWS’ $5.3B investment, tech companies including Dell $DELL, IBM $IBM, DataDog $DDOG, UIPath $PATH, ServiceNow $NOW and Datavolt are committing to invest at least $11.9B in Saudi Arabia for data centers, cloud infrastructure and manufacturing.

(me) These Saudi Arabia headlines has me wondering how much of this is due to the proposed new city of NEOM, in which excavation is underway and slated for a 2030 completion date? Ambitious and state of the art technology..."90% of available data will be harnessed vs the typical 1% for smart cities" wow!

THE LINE, as bin Salman is calling the ambitious project, will "preserve 95 [percent] of nature ... with zero cars, zero streets, and zero carbon emissions," he said in a press release. The city will be powered by 100 percent clean energy and artificial intelligence, while "an estimated 90 [percent] of available data will be harnessed to enhance infrastructure capabilities far beyond the 1 [percent] typically utilized in existing smart cities.
