The Turner film looks interesting.

I've never been a huge fan of Courbet. And naturally the 19th century--in France or England--isn't my field.

But that picture is very odd, isn't it? Why's the nude artist's model standing next to the easel, watching him paint? It really is quite slyly funny.

I saw "Mr Turner" several years ago. I also saw it was scheduled to air earlier this week so I set up my DVR. Unfortunately the stream froze right after the opening scene. He died in 1851 so he predated abstract expressionists by 100 years. Even so, his record high price at auction is $47.5 million vs. $140 million for a Jackson "Jack the Dripper" Pollock. I always though thought Pollock should give gravity should get half the credit!
