Illogical that In the winter of 2016, Yankees signed Aroldis Chapman to a five-year, $86 million contract, but in 2024 could not come up with another $9 million to sign Josh Hader. More absurd that the original five year contract was extended by another year for an additional $18 million following the 2019 season.
Yankees could have used some of the $300 million budgeted for Yoshinobu Yamamoto to sign Hader and still had around $200 million in the bank.
