#108519 RE: 236T568 #108516

I think it's likely that many Republicans are tired of all the drama and chaos surrounding Trumpty. Trouble is, there's no natural successor. For awhile, it looked as if DeSantis could be, as one talking head cited in the article said, "diet Trump". He appealed to the donor class as well as to ordinary voters. But that didn't last long; he wasted no time pissing off a great many people with his idiotic "anti-woke" bullshit. And then he behaved weirdly enough to turn off a lot of others. He's finished.

Haley's doing a little better, but I don't think the average MAGA is interested in putting a woman in the Oval Office. And of course she's made gaffes of her own. Her odds might be somewhat improved if Christie would endorse her, but he seems unlikely to do that.

And it's the same for Biden. I think he's done an excellent job. I believe that if we manage to defeat Trump in November, history may treat Joe more kindly than most people do now. He really didn't need this mess in the Middle East, but bad stuff can happen at any time. It's one of the tests of a president. He deserves more credit for what he has done than he gets. It seems a great many of the MAGAs attribute to Trump what has actually been done by Biden.

Of course where both parties and their candidates are concerned, there's an unspoken question: what if one of these elderly men dies before November? It certainly isn't out of the question. I think Biden is probably healthier, but who knows? Trump hasn't been looking so hot. He also makes very little sense pretty often; his comments today about Jimmy Carter are a good example.

But even if he were to pop off one day soon, who would replace him? I don't think the Republican Party as it is now will welcome the return of the RINOs, no matter when Trump kicks the bucket.
