'Trump's new character witness': Ex-president draws fire for thanking Gambino crime member

Donald Trump is touting a new endorsement from an unlikely source.

Trump took to his social media network, Truth Social, on Friday to thank "Sammy the Bull" for a video in which the former mobster claims he tried to "press" Trump but couldn't corrupt him. In the video, Sammy says Trump was constantly surrounded by ex-FBI agents.

"I couldn't get to him. He wouldn't bite," he said.

Trump sent a personal thank you to the former mobster.

"Thank you to Sammy the Bull," Trump wrote before naming the judges currently presiding over his trials. "I hope Judges Engoron & Kaplan see this."

He added, "We need fairness, strength and honesty in our New York Courts. We don't have it now!"

But the thank you didn't go over well for everyone online.

Former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski called Trump out.

"Trump thanks Gambino Crime Family mobster, rat, and serial liar Sammy 'the Bull' Gravano, who confessed to 19 murders and countless kidnappings, armed robberies, burglaries & 1000s of other felonies, for vouching for him," Filipkowski wrote. "Trump's new character witness."

Another popular liberal account wrote, "This mornin’ Donald Trump used notorious mobster Sammy the Bull as a character reference. There ain’t a writer alive that could make up stuff this crazy."

A political satirist wrote, "Trump's character witness list will extend from Sammy the Bull to Bernie Madoff, Ghislaine Maxwell, David Duke, Bill Cosby, Joran van der Sloot, and the former executives at Enron."

The Intellectualist wrote, "Trump is using Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano as a character witness. If you recall, Gravano is a former hitman for the Gambino Crime Family and a convicted mass murderer."
