Danny Hakim, I've read four of your articles on Wave Systems since December of 1999, including the piece on a play by Jonathan Mirin. They were well written, and I can see how they would have been entertaining to those not invested in Wave.
Over the past month you have probably spoken to an assortment of people associated with the TCG, as well as to some of Wave's partners, so I'm sure you've acquired a good understanding of the architecture of trusted computing, its evolution and Wave's role in particular.
As with many emerging technologies, federal government adoption is extremely important for overall market validation, and government plans to widely deploy TPMs are now well known, and underway. Once the government activates these TPMs they will need to upgrade to Wave's client/server applications. I would pay close attention to this segment of the new market for trusted computing, and I would pay particular attention to the launch of Seagate's new Momentus 5400 FDE.2 disk drives (supported by TPMs and Wave's Trusted Drive Manager) expected next month. These drives are of strong interest to government agencies such as the NSA and in my opinion will be inside the first PCs with TPMs to be activated by the government. Once the government publicly announces activation of their installed base of TPM equipped PCs and implementation of Wave applications, Wave's onging efforts to sell to the general enterprise market will accelerate. These efforts are currently concentrated through their association with Dell and Dell customers in North American, Europe and Japan.
While much of what you wrote in 1999 and 2000 was on the mark, you have no doubt learned that the landscape is very different now for Wave and its potential market. You can certainly write another article with good entertainment value that dwells on Wavoids and their perceived idiosyncracies but I firmly believe that a New York Times article more focused on the merits and potential of trusted computing and Wave will in the end be more relevant and memorable in the years ahead.
Thank you for your interest in our company,
New Wave
