Pop died with dementia at 83. He was luckier than most as stroke, heart attack, then stroke got him quick before the total decline was complete. He had lost all short term memory. For Pop towards the end, at a baseball game every pitch was the first pitch.
Mom went at 89 with complete loss of self to AD, I was her son, then her brother, then her uncle, then her Dad. Finally I was nobody she had ever met.
My sister has it now, pacing, dithering, obsessing, angry at sunset, asking questions that were answered 15 minutes, 15 days and 15 weeks ago. Living with plainly un-true facts, absolutely believed.
Nothing to do. I figure Arisept likely accelerates the decline, but I don't know that. Its just that when you finally put someone who exhibits symptoms on Arisept they will be mostly gone in 9 months.
Finally, they all lived in fear and confusion and completely alone even when they were with people they had loved in the past.
Hang tough. The bullet may miss you and I. Someone has to sort things.
