right now the IRS is doing stupid shit --- seriously

to audit the billionaire might yield massive tax not collected but it might take 3 people two years ---- cost say $600,000 (at max with support staff and rent and heat and benefits) . The haul of unpaid taxes might be 20 Million !!!

but - all articles I read - this is NOT happening !! period -- because the IRS can not afford to devote 3 people for two years

internet full of stuff from 87,000 ARMED agents to 10,000 total over 10 years. Lots of disinformation. One data point stayed with me. In 2010 (before IRS got cut and cut and cut) 20% of those earning over 1Mn a year were audited. Now its 4%. My impression is that the IRS is leaving the BIG money on the table due to lack of staff and it may be penny wise and pound foolish to cut.

it is not 87,000 auditors --- that is the total number of people - including all the support staff needed

but let me look it up on a cost benefit basis as the CBO usually has done the C/B
