Think about the lawsuits if shares were just wiped out.

The secured creditors were protected. The judge approved the plan of bankruptcy and signed off on it. No one will be suing.

You know what'll happen. Most of them will continue to grasp at straws for a while, and then they'll stop and move on. Perhaps a few, like the remaining Xers, will continue to believe forever.
