#159148 RE: pitcook #159146

I actually telemarketed restriction and modifying enzymes when most people didn't know what they were.

I called the targeted researcher and asked them or the assistant that answered if they had time for me to speak with them and introduce my company. If the answer was no, I asked for a good time to call back and entered the data into my Xbase data base on a CPM computer with double floppy drives.

Then I called back at the time designated and again asked if it was a good time to talk.

It might take several times, but eventually the prospect would start talking about their project. The two I remember most clearly was the woman at Monsanto that was working with hundreds of samples of GMO corn. (Unfortunately 92% of the corn grown in the U.S. is now GMO.) The other was a more pleasant memory of a gentleman who explained how he was going to identify rapists with DNA testing. When the discussion went over my head (as it did frequently) I turned the prospect over to the scientist in charge of our lab.

That's how marketing is done, not with Ted talks.
