Turkey wants one too.

Turkish President Asks Elon Musk to Consider Tesla Factory in Turkey

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has formally requested Tesla CEO Elon Musk to consider building a Tesla manufacturing facility in Turkey, according to Turkey’s communications directorate.

The request was made during a meeting at Turkish House, a skyscraper near the United Nations in New York. Erdogan is in the U.S. to attend the 78th session of the U.N. General Assembly, reports Reuters.

Musk indicated that Turkey is among the key candidates for Tesla’s next factory, citing existing collaborations with many Turkish suppliers. Back in April of this year, Tesla launched the Model Y in Turkey.

During the meeting, Erdogan also expressed Turkey’s willingness to collaborate on artificial intelligence and Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet venture under SpaceX. Musk stated that SpaceX is interested in working with Turkish authorities to secure the necessary licenses to offer Starlink services in Turkey.

Erdogan extended an invitation to Musk to attend the Turkish aerospace and technology festival, Teknofest, in Izmir at the end of September. Musk accepted the invitation and expressed his intent to attend.

I trust WSJ more than Lying Elmo.

Lying Elmo said Tesla’s new self-driving system could be good enough to road trip from Los Angeles to New York by the end of 2017.

"Our goal is, we’ll to be able to do a demonstration drive of full autonomy all the way from LA to New York,"

According to Musk, the trip would occur "without the need for a single touch" from the driver, including recharging the car’s battery.

Back in 2016, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stunned the automotive world by announcing that, henceforth, all of his company’s vehicles would be shipped with the hardware necessary for “full self-driving.” You will be able to nap in your car while it drives you to work, he promised. It will even be able to drive cross-country with no one inside the vehicle.

Lying Elmo was dishonest about battery ranges.

Tesla years ago began exaggerating its vehicles’ potential driving distance – by rigging their range-estimating software. The company decided about a decade ago, for marketing purposes, to write algorithms for its range meter that would show drivers “rosy” projections for the distance it could travel on a full battery, according to a person familiar with an early design of the software for its in-dash readouts.

Then, when the battery fell below 50% of its maximum charge, the algorithm would show drivers more realistic projections for their remaining driving range, this person said. To prevent drivers from getting stranded as their predicted range started declining more quickly, Teslas were designed with a “safety buffer,” allowing about 15 miles (24 km) of additional range even after the dash readout showed an empty battery, the source said.

The directive to present the optimistic range estimates came from Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, this person said.

“Elon wanted to show good range numbers when fully charged,”
the person said, adding: “When you buy a car off the lot seeing 350-mile, 400-mile range, it makes you feel good.”
