My take on the confused... Years ago I dealt with a customer service representative, Bill, in person. One day that company called to inform me that Bill is now Beth. It was definitely strange talking face to face to Beth knowing it's really Bill.
My take is Beth was better looking as a female then a male.... whatever floats your boat. But leave the children out of the Bullchit!
