Then I thought of the Civil War battles that were so near to DC

Gettysburg -- 87 miles

Antietam--74 miles

Manassas- Bull Run --34 miles

Harpers Ferry--42 miles

The Dismal Swamp 45 miles

Fredericksburg -- 54 miles

It surprised me that so many battles were fought so close to Lincoln's residence.
