The presence of fuel and high heat in just few feet distance is asking for trouble. No matter how good the precautions by construction may be, it is life threatening situation when an accident happens.
One time my cad fuel line developed a leak. The smell came even to the inside as I was getting my guests from the airport to my home. Luckily I live near the airport. A 15 minutes distance from the Airport. As soon as I dropped my guests at home I rushed to the repair shop. Never I forget that experience. How lucky we had been for my car no having a serious life threatening consequence.
