TETRAIt is a company that produces chemicals for water treatment and recycling. Earlier this week, the company said it had signed an agreement with a company called Saltwerx to develop 6,138 acres of lithium and bromine in Arkansas, but the company did not provide further details.

According to two people familiar with the matter, Saltwerx is a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil acquired a 100,000 acre plot of land in neighboring Arkansas from Galvanic Energy earlier this year, thus acquiring the company. Galvanic remains an independent, privately held company, withTETRAOr ExxonMobil is not related.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Neither company provided production or development timelines. ExxonMobil andTETRAApproximately 2,000 acres and 4,100 acres of land will be contributed, respectively, but some details are yet to be finalized.

Meanwhile, as the US rapidly expanded its electric vehicle supply chain, ExxonMobil received another supply of lithium from the US. Both companies plan to submit a revised application to the Arkansas government later this year to develop brine deposits.

ExxonMobil needs to select at least one direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology to filter metals from Arkansas saltwater, although this technology has yet to be proven on a commercial scale to a large extent. Earlier this month, ExxonMobil had already negotiated licensing DLE technology with International Battery Metals (International Battery Metals) and Energy and Minerals Corporation.

TETRAIt said in November last year that it has been researching various DLE technologies, but has not signed any agreement yet.
