#51831 RE: Myth #51829

Myth, you got me to thinking about the unusual critters that I've ran across. The winner are the sloths, of South American jungles. I've seen them in Eastern Venezuela and in the Amazon headwaters, in Eastern Ecuador.

They live their lives, hanging upside down from tree branches.. They have no pads on their feet. They have three large, curved claws , that the use to cling to tree branches.

They drop to the ground to cross roads. They lay on their stomachs and pull them selves along, using their large claws. You can see where they have crossed dirt and asphalt roads, because they leave scratches,, in road surfaces, where they have pulled themselves along..

Their pelts are unusual. The fur is two to three inches long and hangs inside down.. They are completely helpless. Their teeth are very small and they can't manipulate their claws, to use as defensive weapons.

That is my Okie Wildlife Report
