I don’t totally think a final agreement has been reached- but that a fluid one has been reached-that includes partial infringement penalties and also partial ownership.
Here is why I feel this way.
Back in 1970 I was flying helicopters in Vietnam, and when the tour ended sent to a agency in Texas to test fly a new system of communications in helicopter’s. We had a new Doppler navigation system to pinpoint our location. Yet could also guide us toward any radio or tv station we could tune in. We could also jam those stations and overtalk their words- create chaos. It didn’t take many years and GPS his the scene- making Doppler nav obsolete. Normal GPS had what was referred to as dithering. Your handheld unit was spoffed into thinking you were at spot ‘A’ when you were actually at spot A plus 200 feet.
Government survey job flying in Alaska had GPS accuracy in a 1/2 inch for a million feet- that caused problems. We were ordered to stay in our township and not address the 20 foot error between townships…
So, it is my opinion that VP hasn’t been sitting on their ass for ten years just doing legal work. They are a team of very smart people- and no matter how old the codgers get-the need to build and create will be with them. So, maybe Amazon has seen a portion of the new improvements in communication VP has come up with. Scratch my back I’ll scratch yours. All the cheap phone service will be funded by royalties. JMO. What if the agreement turns out to be a joint venture? Amazon becomes the financial support for future lawsuits in exchange for use of the patents.

Just spitballing here so no need for anyone to get their panties in a bunch.
