Even I use charts to get a fast snapshot of the past. I want to see how a stock held up during the Great Recession or even during the Dot Com crash of 2000-2003. But I don't expect a chart to reveal what a stock's going to do in the future or whether it's a good time to enter a buy or sell order.
I certainly don't look for patterns. That stuff is nonsense and bait for peddling books and costly courses to newbies. Have you noticed that respected business schools never offer courses in technical analysis?
