Yep; that’s a hard sell. Somehow doctors and patients need to be educated that supplements (ever those with purported high EPA content) are not substitutes for the real deal.
#1 Supplements are food products and not regulated by or approved by the FDA for any clinical benefit.
#2 Blood lipid parameters especially TG levels are not necessarily surrogates for CVD reduction.
#3 most supplements contain high volumes of excipients that may be harmful. These and other facts need to be at the forefront of education.
