Never would have anticipated Gerrit Cole having a bad outing when all the signs pointed to a Yankees' win with Cole on the mound and Aaron Hicks getting his first extra base hit of the season.

Yankees’ Aaron Hicks encouraged by first extra-base hit of 2023 against Rays

With his roster spot potentially in question in the coming days, Aaron Hicks showed signs of life Sunday.

The outfielder recorded his first extra-base hit of the season, an RBI double, which was part of a six-run lead the Yankees built up before falling to the Rays, 8-7 in 10 innings, at Tropicana Field.

“I’m feeling better at the plate,” said Hicks, who went 1-for-4 with a walk to raise his average to .143 and OPS to .374. “Been making better contact. Now it’s all about getting hits and results.”

So many things went wrong yesterday they looked like a t-ball team.

Hats off to Boone for not paying attention to the pitch count and how Cole was pitching. That makes 2 bad moves by Boone and Blake in a week giving away games they should have won.

Boone said that he regretted a slow hook on Cole.

“In hindsight, I probably should have gotten him,” Boone said.

Torres trying to get an out at 2B while crawling around on his knees. Then a bad throw to 3rd.

And speaking of Hicks if the game was at the Stadium he would have needed a police escort out of the stadium. At least wait till the SS commits to 1B before going home.

I'll give Cordero a pass. Trevino told him to go to 1B.

Been in this game one-hundred years, but I see new ways to lose 'em I never knew existed before.
